Michelle posted last week a bit about our devotion that we will be sharing at our women’s event on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Harvest Community Church here in Mitchell, and I want to talk a bit more about that.
You know, sometimes we think that what we do and say doesn’t really matter. Michelle and I do a lot of speaking in front of others. As teachers, we are speaking multiple times a day in front of students. We try our best to share important information about writing and communications with our students, and we hope they’re listening and learning, but sometimes it doesn’t seem to be the case. Here at the end of the semester, it can be difficult to get their attention and to keep them engaged. So, sometimes I go home at the end of the day and think, “Is anyone even listening to me?”
Sometimes I’m surprised with students when they repeat back something I’ve said during the semester, and I’ll actually say out loud, “Wow! You really were listening!” But that happened to me at church a week or so ago. One of our lovely ladies who regularly attends our events and who serves on our committee for our events mentioned to me that she was looking over her notes from the devotion that Michelle and I shared at the December ladies’ event from 2023. She said how much she enjoyed the HOPE theme and the acrostic we made up using the letters H-O-P-E. The letters were to help remind us what to do to generate hope when we are weary:
H was “Ask for HELP.”
O was “OPEN your heart to Jesus through God’s word; his death and resurrection has overcome the sin of the world!”
P was “Prayer - Go to God in PRAYER, especially in fellowship with others.”
E was “EXALT HIM!”
It was such a surprise blessing for me to know that what we said resonated with her last year when we spoke and then again this year when she looked at her notes from the event! That is amazing! It makes me even more excited to share with all of the ladies on December 13 when we get together to talk about “Unbroken Joy.”
Ladies, please join Unfinished Women at 6 PM on Friday, December 13! We’re going to have a fabulous time, and we may have a new acrostic for you this year!
Thanks for reading, friends!
Love,
Julie
