For our Share the Love event in January, we collected donations for the Safe Place. The Safe Place is the Mitchell area safe house offering support and advocacy for individuals who have experienced domestic abuse. We are grateful to be able to contribute over $270 from generous givers and over 4 large totes of supplies for residents of the Safe Place!

Julie Gross (left) and Addie Robertson (right) presented a check to Colleen Hoffman (center), Executive Director of Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota. Not pictured are the totes of supplies also donated at the event. Thank you to faithful givers who made it possible for the Safe Place to serve others through your generosity.

At our Share the Love event, Julie and I continued a message from our pastor about washing feet. I continue to reflect on the significance of this small act in the scriptures. How can such a simple task offer significance?

  1. Getting on our knees is an act of humility. Some people may associate humility with humiliation or something that people suffer, but humility is a synonym of humble. When we get on our knees to pray, we are honoring God. Similarly, when we bow to meet the needs of others, we are honoring God's people.

  2. Washing feet is a basic act of cleanliness. Can you imagine what the streets of cities were like when Jesus was walking and talking? Dusty in the country. Droppings from livestock. A lack of indoor plumbing...Washing feet when guests entered a house is surely like washing hands before eating: necessary for health and safety.

  3. Serving others serves Jesus. Jesus told the disciples, 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:14-15).

And so it is our mission, as unfinished women, to continue in the service of Christ, by leading through the message of the words given by Christ, showing us how to love like Christ, and sharing the love the way Christ taught us to share the love.

We also shared this acrostic poem:

L - Look for ways to serve.

O - Offer to help others where you see a need.

V - Value others more than ourselves.

E - Emulate Jesus.

As we prepare for our Spring Tea: A Day at the Spa, Julie and I are excited to continue in our mission to serve Christ! God is so good, and we hope you will join Unfinished Women and our special guest speakers on April 5th for "A Day at the Spa"! We look forward to food, fun, and fellowship!

May you find feet to wash this week. Yours in Christ, Michelle
