I love to travel! For the past few years, I have been working on continuing education in the summers. This summer, I decided to take a week or two to disconnect and unwind. I planned to take my parents on a 2000 mile round trip to Michigan to see my middle brother and his family.
From South Dakota, we traveled through the lower plat of Minnesota, taking our first tourist stop in the SPAM museum. (If you haven’t been, the museum is totally worth the free tour less than 1 hour stop just off of I90 near the Austin exit.) Next, we headed to Spring Green, Wisconsin to tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s home, Taliesin. After an overnight, we drove up the arm of Wisconsin to Sturgeon Bay. A quick pit stops at Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers, and we were on our way around the tip of Lake Michigan. We ferried out to Mackinac Island, where we spent the night surrounded by lake views and the sound of Seagulls. From there, we drove into the cherry-picking capital.
Sounds wonderful! …but you know if you have traveled with family that not every moment is sunshine and roses. We hit a few potholes on the way, and more than once I was concerned about blowing a tire. Okay…I’m being metaphorical and referring to my temper. As I was visiting a lighthouse during one of our sight-seeing ventures in
Sturgeon Bay, I reflected on how God guides us like a lighthouse through rough waters.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105, KJV
I love Jesus, but I sometimes I need God’s lamp to light my path and help me navigate rough waters. Turning to God in moments when I feel weak or someone is getting in my space is exactly the right time for me to look up and towards God’s guiding light. Even through short prayers, whispered phrases, or brief reflections on His word, I am comforted in the knowledge that God is with me. God is my lighthouse, and I find a great deal of comfort knowing that even when I mess up, God will be there to light my way, correcting and guiding my steps.
Ladies, join Julie and me on June 10th, 10 am at Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene. We will be having Coffee in the Park (and donuts!) and joining in fellowship. Happy summer, Friends!
May God bless and light your way on your summer travels.
Michelle
