If you're a Top Gun fan, you probably noticed I am using a modified Maverick quip. Let's recap: Maverick and Goose are at the Top Gun school, top of their class in military aviation. They are in a contest of sorts to determine who is the best of the best. When a fellow flyer teases Maverick about losing points during a flight drill, Maverick declares, "I feel the need, the need for speed!" This declaration has Maverick and Goose all pumped up to fly! What does this have to do with Jesus? Glad you asked...
This got me thinking about how declaring how I need Jesus gets me pumped up to do some Jesus work. Try it: "I feel the need, the need for Jesus!"
Declarations are an amazing way to declare what you believe. Declaring shows that declarers are in agreement with God's word and in alignment with God's word. Also, saying a positive thought out loud has amazing effects on the brain, including creating a positive mindset. Contemporary research on how declarations affect mindset from John Wooden, Carol Dweck, Brene' Brown, Adam Grant, James Clear, and other scholars confirm what The Bible says about declarations.
Here are some of my declarations:
I am a child of God (1 John 3:1 (NIV); Romans 8:14 (NIV))
I am forgiven (Ephesians 1:7)
I am chosen (Ephesians 1:4 (NIV))
I am loved (John 3:16 (NIV))
I am redeemed (Isaiah 53:5 (NIV))
These declarations are just a few of the things The Bible says I am as a believer of God the Father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit. I feel the need to declare for Jesus daily through prayer by offering thanks, repenting for my sins, and praising God's glory in the name of Jesus.
Friends, if you need Jesus, just say so. God hears your voice - even soft as a whisper or in a song.
Praying blessings on you today,
Michelle
