I Love Jesus, and I Love My Husband

Geoff and I have been married for almost 28 years. That is sort of amazing to me—I don’t feel that old, but we have a twenty-five-year-old son and a twenty-three-year-old son, so I guess time is marching on.

I remember celebrating my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. I was about 13 years old at the time, and I remember thinking that 25 years seemed like forever! Now, it seems like a drop in the bucket, a blink of the eye.

On our wedding invitations, we included this Bible verse: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4. I truly felt like God had given me Geoff—He provided me with a husband I could love and laugh with and laugh at and cry with and rely on and grow with. I am blessed!

Now, we will both tell you that marriage isn’t easy, and it’s not always fun. It’s not all romance and roses and kisses. We argue and complain and sometimes fight and yell. But, and this is a big BUT, we are committed to each other and to our marriage.

When we were first married, we decided that the “d” word (“divorce”) would not be a word that we would entertain in our marriage. We would work things out—we would fight for our relationship and our marriage. Every wedding we attend, we recite the vows that the bride and groom are reciting to ourselves, therefore, renewing our vows to each other.

For the last seven years, we have lived in separate houses and towns during the week, seeing each other only on weekends (during the school year). We do have more time together in the summer! Early in our marriage, that might have been very difficult to live through, but we make it work. I miss him during the week, and if I have frustrations with students or other things, he’s the first person I call because I know he’s got my back. He loves me no matter what, even if I said something stupid or did something dumb. I love that he loves to talk with strangers (Geoff’s never met a stranger as they’re all potential friends), and he teases EVERYONE. I love that he rushes in to help with emergencies with a level head. I love how much he loves our boys. I love that he takes care of me.

I truly believe God blessed me with my husband, and for that, I thank the Lord every day! He’s not perfect, but neither am I, and we make a pretty good team like Starsky and Hutch or Batman and Robin!

Our 28th wedding anniversary isn’t until December 31, but I think it is okay to appreciate my husband on other days throughout the year! Thank you, Geoff, for loving me!

Here are a few pictures of us:

Here we are in London in front of the Globe Theater (we're both English teachers, so this was very exciting for us to see).

Geoff and I on a bridge in London with a cool view behind us.

Here we are on a hop-on-hop-off bus in Rome!

Thank you, friends, for reading!

Love,

Julie
