Thank you, Lord, for your peace.

Do you ever feel like there’s a lot going on around you? Like maybe life’s storms are raging, and you feel like you’re in the middle of it? How do you find peace in that?

It’s hard to believe that the 9/11 attacks happened twenty-three years ago. I remember feeling sadness and fear and uncertainty, along with other emotions. My children were just three years old and not quite one, and I wondered what the world would look like for them as they grew up. Much has happened in our country and in our world since then. But the many lives that were lost during the attacks won’t be forgotten; so many family members and friends have to deal with that incredible loss.

Some of the storms we face are little storms, and others produce hurricane-force winds and floods and lightning. The bigger storms might bring feelings of sadness or fear or uncertainty. Maybe relationships in our lives have been strained or maybe medical issues are causing pain or maybe there are loved ones who have passed away.

So where can we find peace in life’s storms? Where can we turn?

Really, there’s only one answer, and that’s Jesus. He’s the one who can calm the storms of life, both literally and metaphorically.

In Psalm 107, verses 29 and 30 say this about how the Lord helped some in a storm: “He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor!” Again, in Mark 4 a storm is calmed. Jesus is in a boat with the disciples during a storm, and verse 39 says this: “When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.”

It talks about a “stillness” and “a great calm” after our God stopped those storms from raging. Isn’t that what we want in our lives? We want some stillness and some calm from the uncertainty and the fear and sadness.

I will choose to turn to God during these storms of life. I will cling to Jesus as He brings me peace.

Thank you, Lord, for calming the storms in my life and for bringing me peace. When I see a sunset like this, it brings me peace.

Thanks for reading, friends.

Love,

Julie
